Excelling in dealing with conflicts and negotiating to achieve win-win deals

Whenever two or more people live, work, and do business, conflict abounds. The only place where you won't find conflict is in the graveyards. That means you should be concerned if there is no conflict at all. Your team may be is dead, dysfunctional, and/or stagnant.

Smart and successful organizations proactively and intentionally empower their people not just to resolve conflicts. They equip them to turn conflicts into opportunities.

These organizations:

  • Encourage their people to have 'constructive disagreements' in their conversations and meetings.
  • Facilitate conflicts of ideas, suggestions, strategies, and methods until the best one wins.
  • Refuse the status quo to imprison them but rather promote continuous improvement.
  • Create a culture and some ground rules that incentivize turning conflicts and disagreements into opportunities.

These organizations enjoy constant creativity and innovation.

They also have vibrant relationships that allow them to be on the same page and roll forward together as harmonious groups to meet their short and long-term goals.

On the contrary, there are teams and organizations that fear or hide from conflicts. Even when they confront conflict, the goal is to resolve one conflict at a time.

Turning conflicts into opportunities also requires excelling in negotiation for win-win deals. Not all conflicts can be addressed quickly. Involved parties may need to engage in negotiations that may take hours, days, and even months.

At the end of the presentation, participants will:

  • Understand the importance of dealing with conflicts head-on before it creates domino effects.
  • Realize the significance of never leaving any potential conflict unchecked and how that could save the team and the greater organization from lost production, absences, attrition, and even lawsuits.
  • Recognize the nature and sources of conflicts in their organization
  • Create a culture that encourages organized disagreement and set ground rules to enable everyone in the team to challenge the status quo and inferior ideas to tap into their individual and collective creativity.
  • Appreciate the basic types of negotiations, the phases of negotiations, and the skills needed for successful negotiation.
  • Get a negotiation process with some basic bargaining techniques
  • Develop a set of skills in solution building and finding common ground.
  • Know how to lay the groundwork for negotiation
  • Apply negotiating concepts to create win-win deals
